Comments:    I've been all over the country....and now I wouldn't live anywhere other than Odessa.

School Story:    When the book Friday Night Lights came out, it emphasized football - of course. But it also implied that academics were an afterthought. So the impression people get is that we were a bunch of dumb hicks who had nothing better to do than play or watch football. That really pissed me off! Don't get me wrong, I played ball through first part of Junior season, but I had trouble maintaining grades so I had to quit. (God that killed me, but slips below a 95 were unacceptable!)

Actually, our class broke a state record for the amount of scholarship monies raised by one class. We sent students to Notre Dame, Harvard, MIT, TX A&M engineering, Oberlin, etc... We won tons of academic awards and contests that year! Why couldn't Bissinger make that a footnote in his damned book?

So you can see, I'm a VERY proud Panther, both of our football and our academic prowess in the Class of 89.
